He is the only son of his African-American father, who works as a regional sales representative for Citizens Automobile and Recreation Finance, and his American mother, who works as a second-grade teacher.

Spencer grew up with his younger sister, Olivia Rattler, who is a sports enthusiast and also plays volleyball for her school, Missouri State University. Everyone in Spencer’s family is an ardent supporter of his football career, and his father actively manages his NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness).

Spencer Rattler’s QB Analysis

Rattler's improvement as a quarterback is evident in almost all of his games. He is standing as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and is expected to move up the ladder and shine more next season. This is owing to the fact that some talent will be leaving the Southeastern Conference for the NFL Draft.

Rattler's diligence and improvement aided South Carolina’s success in the concluded season and this has secured him a place among the clique of elite college quarterbacks. He is a former five-star recruit, and with the growth he experienced in 2022, he should be one of the names to watch out for in the 2023 college football season.

With the announcement of his return to South Carolina on January 10, 2023, and his achievements in 2022, such as beating Clemson, South Carolina’s archrival, thereby breaking the record of a starting quarterback to beat Clemson since 2013, and also breaking the record of the most touchdown passes in a game, Rattler has placed himself at a notable spot on the football map.

He also rushed for a total of 1,040 yards and 14 touchdowns during his four years at Pinnacle High. He was named MVP of the Elite 11 in his senior season at The Opening in Texas.

Rattler appeared in a Netflix sports documentary series named QB1: Beyond the Lights, which was directed by Peter Berg. During his final season at Pinnacle High, he was suspended for violating a district code of conduct and was unable to play for the rest of the season. The quarterback initially claimed to have sprained MCL but was advised by the school administration to keep mute on the nature of the code of conduct violation.

Rattler had around 14 offers on the table from a number of colleges playing in the NCAA Division One by the end of his sophomore year at Pinnacle High. However, the quarterback committed to Oklahoma after an unofficial visit to the University in June 2017. Rattler signed his Letter of Intent to play for Coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners on December 19, 2018.

His second and third starts were upset by Kansas State and Iowa State respectively, but Rattler and The Sooners made an impressive comeback against Texas with a 4-overtime win, making Rattler the third Oklahoma quarterback to beat Coach Tom Herman. Rattler sustained a hip injury on November 7 in a game against Kansas that ended with a win for Oklahoma.

Rattler was the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in the 2021 season but he was benched for Caleb Williams and did not play for the rest of the season, Rattler will eventually leave Oklahoma for South Carolina, to play for South Carolina Gamecocks under Head Coach Shane Beamer, Beamer had formerly worked as an assistant coach with Rattler in Oklahoma.

Rattler was the starting quarterback for South Carolina in 2022, he led the Gamecocks to an 8-5 record, throwing for 3,026 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He led the Gamecocks in two massive upsets, a win against Tennessee, where he broke the program’s record for the most touchdown passes in a game.

Rattler also had 2 touchdowns in a win against Clemson, making him the first South Carolina quarterback to beat Clemson since Connor Shaw during the 2013 season. With Rattler, South Carolina reached its peak CFP ranking ever and its peak AP ranking since 2014. • He is typically accurate on intermediate and short passes, and he occasionally displays moments of anticipation and precision on intermediate out routes. He has the talent to deliver deep throws that lead his receivers to the ball.
