The Las Vegas Raiders are a professional American football team based in Las Vegas, Nevada, competing in the NFL in its AFC West division. The team has not won a divisional title since 2002 and has gone through 12 different head coaches since the turn of the century. They will be hoping that Antonio Pierce is the one to take the franchise back to its glory days. However, the path ahead doesn’t seem to be easy for Pierce as the team plays in a division where Mahomes, Reid, Jim Harbaugh, Herbert and Sean Payton reside. But if the end of the 2023 season was any indication (finished 5-4 with Pierce serving as interim head coach), the Raiders with a vaulted defense and competent coaching should not be taken lightly in 2024.

After a close battle throughout the OTA’s, training camp and a couple of preseason games, Gardner Minshew edged out Aidan O’Connell to take the starting spot as QB. After the departure of Josh Jacobs to Green Bay, Zamir White will be leading the backfield and a tight end room that already consisted of Michael Mayer, got even better with the addition of Brock Bowers. The receiving core, even without Hunter Renfrow, is still one of the better groups in the league with 6-time pro bowler Davante Adams leading it from the front. Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers round out the top 3 in that position. The team has big expectations from their offensive line unit which consists of guys like Kolton Miller, rookie Powers-Johnson and Andre James.

The bread and butter of Silver and Black reside on their vaunted defense which ranked 15th in 2023 (via FOX Sports), but only got better once Antonio Pierce took over during the midseason. The Raiders rushing defense which ranked 21st in 2023 (via FOX Sports) addressed the issue by signing the best defensive tackle available on the market in Wilkins. Their trio of Crosby, Koonce and Wilson form one of the most fearsome edge groups in the league (26 sacks between them in 2023) while Deablo, Spillane and Matterson do give Pierce a solid linebacker core to work with. The secondary group which might not be the strength of this defense still has room to grow with a young nucleus that consists of Hobbs, Jones, Bennett and Trevon Moehrig. Carlson, Cole and Jacob will once again return to lead the specials team.

Antonio Pierce will be the 23rd head coach in franchise history. The rookie head coach will have former HC Marvin Lewis (assistant head coach) to lean on for experience while Patrick Graham will continue his role as a defensive coordinator even under the new regime. The major hire in the 2024 offseason was getting Luke Getsy to serve as the offensive coordinator.
