The teams plays its home games at the Toyota Center. Houston Rockets have won two NBA Championships and have won four Conference titles.

Rockets history

Rockets picked Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1984 Draft and Olajuwon went on to play 17 seasons for the Rockets, leading them to two NBA Championships in 1994 and 1995. Some of the prominent players to have played for Houston Rockets include Hakeem Olajuwon, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes etc.

At the 2002 NBA Draft, they picked Yao Ming as their first overall pick. The Rockets missed the 200 playoffs by one game, improving their record from previous season by 15 victories. The Rockets proceeded to acquire Tracy McGrady in a seven-player deal with the Orlando Magic. The duo formed a formidable partnership as they recorded 22 straight victories in 2007-08 season. Unfortunately, injury hit their careers and the duo never truly recognized their potential.

Rockets in recent years

The acquisition of James Harden was an important one for the franchise as they built their team around him. Soon they added another piece to the franchise in Dwight Howard. A strong supporting cast of Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons provided Howard and Harden to truly blossom. However, it was year after year of playoff disappointment for the franchise.

Before the start of the 2016-17 season, Houston appointed Mike D'Antoni as their new coach and soon after traded for Chris Paul from the LA Clippers in hopes of finally delivering a championship.

After having a terrific regular season, it finally looked like to be Houston's year. In the Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors, the Rockets took a 3-2 lead after Game 5. However, Chris Paul suffered a hamstring injury which essentially lost them the series as the Warriors roared back to book a spot in the finals.

Darryl Morrey once again tinkered with the squad as he traded Chris Paul to OKC Thunder in return for two future first round picks, and two future first round pick swaps and Russell Westbrook. It was once again a sign of intent from the Rockets as they look to deliver a championship to the city of Houston since the days of Hakeem Olajuwon.
