Correa placed on 10-day DL with back soreness
Carlos Correa is going on the 10-day disabled list, Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch told reporters on Thursday.
Correa has been out since Monday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with back soreness. In the 6-3 loss, he went one for three with a walk.
It is unclear exactly when he suffered the injury.
The 23-year-old shortstop is batting .268 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs this season. Houston have a 54-28 record and a 3.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the American League West.
The Astros are just percentage points behind the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox for the best record in MLB and do not play a team with a winning record again until after the All-Star break.
This is allowing Hinch to treat Correa's injury with kid gloves.
"I'm going to be ultra careful and conservative with him," Hinch told the Chronicle.
"I'm not going to play him until I'm convinced that he’s not sore anymore."
