At just the age of 16, Elie took his first steps toward a professional career by joining JSA Bordeaux Basket in the Nationale Masculine 1 (NM1), the third tier of French basketball. His initial experience was a mix of playing with the youth team, Espoirs Pau-Lacq-Orthez, and gaining limited minutes in the senior Pro A team. This period allowed him to transition into the professional league gradually while showcasing his talent.

Professional Career

Elie Okobo took a significant step in 2016 when he signed a three-year agreement with Elan Bearnis Pau-Lacq-Orthez, a respected team in the top French basketball league, LNB Pro A. Initially, he split his time among the youth team, Espoirs Pau-Orthez and the senior Pro A group. This time allowed him to transition into the professional league and adapt to its needs.

By the 2017-18 season, Elie’s role expanded. He moved into the beginning lineup for Pau-Orthez in the Pro A. During this season, he showcased his scoring potential, playmaking skills, and defensive prowess. His performances caught the attention of the scouts and analysts, leading to increased recognition and draft prospects.

In the 2018 NBA draft, the Phoenix Suns selected Elie Okobo as the 31st overall pick. This marked a significant moment in his career, as he entered the NBA, the pinnacle of professional basketball. This time showcased his adaptability to different demanding situations of the league., including assignments to the G League’s Northern Arizona Suns.
