Giannis Antetokounmpo Brothers

Giannis Sina Ugo Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional basketball player who plays as a power forward for the Milwaukee Bucks. His freakish physical attributes have led the fans and media to dub him as ‘The Greek Freak’. Giannis is 6’ 11” with a 7’ 3” wingspan and handles the ball like a guard, making him an unstoppable force in the NBA. At the age of 28, he already has the accomplishments of a Hall of Fame inductee.

The athletic genes do run in the family. Giannis has 4 brothers who have all had professional sporting experience. What else was to be expected from the children of a professional soccer player and a professional high jumper.

Who are Giannis’ Brothers

The Antetokounmpo brother’s names in descending order of age are: Francis, Thanasis, Giannis, Kostas, and Alex. Veronica and Charles Antetokounmpo migrated from Nigeria to Greece in search of a better lifestyle for their kids. Although the brothers had a tumultuous childhood, they are all grateful for it.

How many of Giannis’ Brothers are in the NBA

It is a well known fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo is an NBA superstar, but it is less known that three of his brothers have had some form of NBA experience. Thanasis Antetokounmpo has played in the NBA with the New York Knicks and the Milwaukee Bucks. Kostas Antetokounmpo has played with the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Alex Antetokounmpo with the Sacramento Kings and the Toronto Raptors (Summer League and Training Camp). In 2014, He was drafted 51st overall by the New York Knicks. He mostly played on their G-League squad. In 2019, he signed with the Bucks, reuniting with his younger brother Giannis. Thanasis became an NBA Champion after the Bucks beat the Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals.

After Giannis was drafted, the family moved to Wisconsin, where Kostas played his highschool basketball. He played a season of college basketball for the University of Dayton Flyers before declaring for the 2018 NBA Draft. The Philadelphia 76ers selected Kostas with the 60th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and traded him to the Dallas Mavericks. He would play predominantly in the G-League before getting waived in the 2019 offseason. He was claimed off waivers by the Lakers in 2019 and won a championship with them the same season, becoming the first of the Antetokounmpo brothers to win an NBA Championship.

In search of playing time, Kostas signed with French Team ASVEL Basket in 2021. In 2022, he played for the Windy City Bulls of the NBA's G-League and then spent some time playing with Fenerbahçe before landing with Panathinaikos in 2023.
