His breakthrough came on February 10, 2023, when he earned his first career start following Mason Plumlee's trade.

Williams' performance continued into the 2023-24 season, where he set a Hornets record with 15 offensive rebounds in a single game against the Washington Wizards on November 10, 2023. In that same game, he posted a stat line of 21 points and 24 total rebounds. Although his second season was shortened due to a back injury sustained against the Brooklyn Nets, Williams still managed to improve his statistics, averaging 12.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game. Before his NBA career, Williams played college basketball at Duke University. For his senior year, Williams transferred to the nationally renowned IMG Academy. His performance in high school basketball culminated in his selection as a 2020 McDonald's All-American, one of the highest honors for high school basketball players in the United States.
