Tyreke Jamir Evans is a professional American basketball player. He plays as a shooting guard for the Indios de Mayaguez in the BSN (Baloncesto Superior Nacional). Earlier, Tyreke represented several clubs in the National Basketball Association from 2009 to 2019. The 33-year-old player was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the 2009 NBA draft. He became the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2010. Evans played high school and college basketball as well.

Tyreke Evans was born on September 19, 1989, in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States. He belongs to a Christian family and African-American ethnicity. His father’s name was John Evans, while his mother was Benita Evans. Apart from that, Tyreke also has three elder brothers named Reggie, Julius and Dion Evans.

Tyreke Evans dropped his college’s remaining three seasons and declared himself eligible for the 2009 NBA draft. The Sacramento Kings chose him with the 4th overall pick in June 2009. He was named the Western Conference Rookie of the Month in December 2009 in response to games played from the beginning of the season till November. Evans averaged 18.8 points, 5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game during that period. He was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for the second consecutive month on January 4, 2010.


He gained his career’s first triple-double with 19 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a win against the Toronto Raptors on March 11. He was also awarded the 2009-10 NBA Rookie of the Year Award on April 27, 2010. In a game against the Golden State Warriors on January 21, 2011, he recorded a then-career-high 35 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. However, Evans then missed 19 season games due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot.


Tyreke Evans signed a deal in November 2011 to play for Virtus Roma in Italy during the NBA lockout. He returned to the Sacramento Kings after the 2011 NBA lockout was over. Tyreke logged a season-high 31 points in a lost game against the Utah Jazz on January 28, 2012. Meanwhile, Evans missed 16 out of 20 games due to a left knee injury in the 2012-13 season. Eventually, Tyreke finished the season averaging 15.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.


In July 2013, Tyreke Evans was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. He registered a career-high 41 points in a win over the Thunder on April 14, 2014. On January 12, 2017, Tyreke Evans scored a season-high 29 points in a winning game against the Brooklyn Nets. Evans returned to the Sacramento Kings on February 20, 2017. In his first attempt for the Kings since 2013, Tyreke scored 15 points off the bench in a victory over the Denver Nuggets. In a game against the Spurs on March 8, he posted a season-high 26 points. In July 2017, Evans entered the camp of the Memphis Grizzlies. He witnessed his first 30-point game (32 points) against the Orlando Magic on November 1.


Tyreke Evans again secured 32 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 assists against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 27. He recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds in his first game for the Grizzlies on February 11 against the Thunder. Tyreke posted 14 points and 5 assists in the first game for the Indiana Pacers on October 17 against the Memphis Grizzlies.


Tyreke Evans faced a ban from the NBA on May 17, 2022, for not complying with the terms of the Anti-Drug Program. However, he signed with the Wisconsin Herd (NBA G League) on March 16, 2022, and they waived him a week later.

Tyreke was chosen as the MVP of the McDonald’s High School All-American Game as well. In 2008, Evans was listed as the No. 3 point guard and No. 6 player in the country.
