Jabari Parker: A Brief Biography

The America-born (March 15, 1995) basketball player Jabari Ali Parker last played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. The professional athlete already played for five different franchises in the National Basketball Association before joining the Celtics in 2021. He plays as a power forward. The Milwaukee Bucks drafted Parker in the 2014 NBA draft to let him enter the prestigious league.


In 2018, Jabari moved to the Chicago Bulls. Thereafter, he was traded to the Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings as well. Before the NBA, Parker had an exceptional career at high school. He was considered one of the best basketball players at the high-school level the US has ever seen. Jabari led his high school team to four straight national championships from 2010 to 2013. He also played a season (2013-14) for Duke University.

Jabari Parker Early Life


Jabari Ali Parker was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, US. He is a Christian by religion and African/American/Tongan by ethnicity. His father’s and mother’s names are Sonny Parker and Folola “Lola” Finau-Parker. Jabari is the youngest child of his parents. His siblings include Christian, Darryl, Iman and Tilah Parker. Jabari Parker started playing basketball in his childhood and honed his game skills with his older brother Christian. They used to practice basketball on the court at a local meetinghouse. Sometimes, they played basketball the whole night at the church.


Parker developed impressive basketball skills just by his second grade. He started competing with those in the fifth grade. When he was in 4th grade, he made the 8th-grade team but didn’t play due to insurance policy reasons. Parker was offered five Division I scholarship offers. In his high-school career, Jabari showed mind-blowing basketball skills and erupted as one of the top-class players. After completing his high-school career, Parker joined the college for a 2013-14 season.


Jabari Parker NBA Journey


With a spectacular high-school and college-level career, Jabari Parker entered the National Basketball Association more confidently. The Milwaukee Bucks was the team to draft Parker in the 2014 NBA draft. He signed with the Bucks in July 2014 for the 2014 NBA Summer League. Jabari played his debut game for the Bucks on October 29, 2014 against the Charlotte Hornets. He posted 8 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist in just 37 minutes of action as a starter.


Jabari registered a double-double (11 points and 10 rebounds) two nights later against the Philadelphia 76ers. He was selected as the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month (October/November). On December 15, he suffered an ACL injury in a game against the Suns that kept him off the court for almost a year. Parker returned to the court against the Philadelphia 76ers on November 4 of the next season and posted just two points as a starter.


On February 9, 2017, Jabari was again diagnosed with a torn ACL in the same knee. Before the injury, he averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in the 2016-17 season. In July 2018, Parker moved to the Chicago Bulls and posted 15 points and 5 rebounds in his first game with the Bulls. In a game against the Mavericks, he scored a career-high 20 points off the bench.


Along with Bobby Portis, Parker was traded to the Washington Wizards in February 2019. He secured a career-high 14 rebounds against the Brooklyn Nets. Later, Jabari was traded to the Atlanta Hawks under a two-year deal. He posted a season-high 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists in a match against the Milwaukee Bucks. On February 6, 2020, Jabari joined the Sacramento Kings but the team waived him on March 25 of the next year.


His recent contract in the NBA came on April 16, 2021 with the Boston Celtics. Parker scored 11 points in his debut game with the Celtics. The Boston Celtics waived Parker on October 17, 2021 and re-signed him three days later. However, he was waived again by the Celtics on January 7, 2022.

Initially, Jabari attended Robert A. Black Magnet Elementary School. He started learning the game of basketball early in his life under the supervision of his older brothers, especially Christian. Later, Parker attended the Simeon Career Academy. His four years at this academy must be one of the best times of Parker’s life. He witnessed a wonderful first season and became one of the best performers. Jabari averaged 19.3 points and 5 rebounds each game.


Meanwhile, he won the IHSA Class 4A state championship and Freshman of the Year (2010) by ESPN. Parker also received multiple scholarship offers from top universities, including Illinois, Kansas, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Florida, DePaul etc. By the time he graduated in 2013, he continued displaying remarkable performance and won several awards. Parker led his team to national championship victories every year he played for his high-school team.


Jabari Parker joined Duke University after finishing his high school education. He played for the Duke Blue Devils. Jabari posted 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists to start his college career in November 2013. It earned him his first ACC Rookie of the Year award. In his only season with Duke, Jabari Parker averaged 19.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
