Elena Rybakina is a professional tennis player, who has won eight WTA singles titles in her career so far, including one Grand Slam title, and two WTA 1000 titles. Rybakina won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2022, which makes her the first Kazakhstani player to win the Grand Slam title.

In 2023, Elena Rybakina made the final of the Australian Open, won her first WTA 1000 title at the Indian Wells Open, made the final at the Miami Open, and won the Italian Open. These achievements make her, the third player in the Open Era to reach the final in the same season at the Australian Open, Indian Wells Open, and Miami Open plus Italian Open, after Monica Seles in 1991 and Maria Sharapova in 2012.

Elena Rybakina is currently one of the best players on the WTA tour, and will achieve a lot of success in the coming years. She is ranked No. 5 in the World by WTA as of November 2024. Elena Rybakina started playing a variety of sports with her older sister, Anna, at a very young age. She was very interested in gymnastics and ice skating as a child. But, she was too tall to become a professional player in either of those sports. Later her father advised her to focus on tennis. Rybakina started playing tennis at the age of six, at the Spartak Tennis Club. Where she was trained by several accomplished coaches, including former top-10 player Andrey Chesnokov and former top-100 player Evgenia Kulikovskaya.

Elena Rybakina did not have individual training, instead, she practiced in a group of about eight players up until age 15 and a group of four players through age 18. Also, she only played tennis for about two hours per day, because she also had to attend a regular high school.

She began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit at the age of 14 and is a former world No. 3 junior.

When Did Elena Rybakina Turn Pro?

Elena Rybakina started competing on the ITF Women's Circuit, at the age of 15, in December 2014.

Elena Rybakina made her WTA Tour debut in October 2017 at the Kremlin Cup. She won her first WTA Tour match at the St. Petersburg Trophy against Timea Bacsinszky in February 2018. Rybakina won her first ITF singles title at a $15k event in Kazan in March 2018. In 2018, Rybakina acquired Kazakhstani citizenship and switched federations from Russia to Kazakhstan, she made this decision because of financial reasons. She also had various offers to play college tennis in the United States, but she rejected them.

Rybakina made her Grand Slam debut at the French Open in 2019. She won her first WTA title at the Bucharest Open, in July 2019.
