Tristen Jamal Newton is an American professional basketball player who plays point/shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA as of May 2025. He was drafted as the 49th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. On July 27, 2024, Newton signed a two-way contract with the Pacers and joined the Indiana Mad Ants in the 2024-2025 NBA G League. He played four matches for the Mat Ants, scored 59 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and made 32 assists.

On January 3, 2025, Newton was claimed off waivers by the Timberwolves and signed a two-way contract, joining the Iowa Wolves in the NBA G League. As of May 16, 2025, he played a total of 20 games for the Wolves, scoring 332 points, making 163 assists, and grabbing 141 rebounds in the NBA G League.

Tristen Newton initially attended East Carolina University located in Greenville, North Carolina, joining the East Carolina Pirates men's basketball team from 2019 to 2022. During his freshman season, he played in 31 games, averaging 11.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, as per his college roster. Newton set the ECU freshman record with 114 total assists during the 2019-20 season. During his last season with the Carolina Pirates, he played in 30 games, scoring 104 points, grabbing 144 rebounds, and making 151 assists. Newton transferred to the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, and joined the UConn Huskies men's basketball team in the NCAA Division I in the 2022-23 season. During his time with the UConn Huskies, Newton won the NCAA Championship two consecutive times i.e., the 2022-23 season and the 2023-24 season. He returned to the UConn Huskies for a fifth season and averaged 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game over 79 games during his two seasons, as per Sports Reference. In 2024, Newton earned accolades like the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and the Bob Cousy Award. Newton became a member of the Huskies of Honor.
