Jaelan Everett Phillips is an American football linebacker for the Miami Dolphins as of the 2024 NFL season. The Dolphins selected him as the 18th pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He started five games in his rookie year, recorded a total of 42 tackles, and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. Phillips became a regular in the next season, starting in 15 games and combining for 61 tackles. After a steady season, he suffered from a torn Achilles in the 2023 season, making only six starts. , As of week 8 of the 2024 NFL season, Phillips has appeared in 46 games and combined for 152 total and 90 solo tackles. On September 30, 2024, Phillips sustained a season-ending knee injury in a game against the Tennessee Titans and was placed on injured reserve for the 2024 NFL season.
Phillips attended the Redlands East Valley High School in California, where he grew up. He was a five-star recruit coming out of high school as per Rivals and ESPN. As a senior, Phillips recorded 142 tackles and was invited to the U.S. All-American Bowl Game as per his college profile. He committed to UCLA in 2017 playing for two seasons, before transferring to Miami in 2019. Phillips had a breakout season in 2020, as he was named to the All-American First team and was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award.
