Austin Tyler Reaves was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted free agent in 2021. The shooting guard has established himself as a mainstay on the Lakers’ roster alongside superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Over 64 games with the Lakers in the 2022/23 season, Reaves averaged 13.0 points with 3.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.3 blocks per game. He shot 52.9% from the field, including 39.8% from deep.

After helping the Lakers advance to the conference finals last season, Reaves will be looking to make another deep playoff run in 2024.

Austin Reaves Nicknames

Austin Reaves has two nicknames — “Hillybilly Kobe” and “AR-15.”

Hillybilly Kobe

Austin Reaves’ first nickname was Hillybilly Kobe. This name was given to him by a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma. He initially called him “HBK.” When Reaves asked what it meant, the student answered “Hillybilly Kobe.” Incidentally, one of his teammates heard it and that became his nickname for three years at the University and eventually one of his permanent nicknames.

AR-15

This nickname is just a combination of his initials and his jersey number.

However, Austin Reaves does not like either of his nicknames. He felt that his second nickname sounds like the name of a weapon while he is totally against gun violence. As for the first nickname, he feels that the name isn’t suitable because of Kobe Bryant’s death. Meanwhile, he has asked his fans to choose a new nickname for him so that he can discard these two nicknames.

How old is Austin Reaves?

Born on May 29, 1998, Austin Reaves is presently 25 years old.
