Fighting out of Coconut Creek, Florida, Dustin Poirier has become a household name in the world of MMA. Poirier attended Northside High School in Louisiana but dropped out early due to frequently ending up in street brawls. He started his pro career with a perfect 7 - 0 record, fighting under various local promotions in Louisiana.

In 2010, he was signed by World Extreme Cagefighting. However, Poirier found himself in the UFC as both promotions were merged. When asked about the move in an interview, Poirier has the following to say -

“The things I do, I just do 100 percent. I've put my heart and soul into fighting, it’s my passion, and I’m bleeding and sweating every single day. That’s how bad I want to be the best.”

The run that he went on to challenge Khabib Nurmegomedov for the lightweight championship is filled with impressive wins against top contenders in the 155lbs division. Starting with a no-contest against Eddie Alvarez, Poirier then went on to beat Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Max Holloway before losing to Nurmegomedov. The Diamond didn't stop there and bounced back with wins over Dan Hooker and Conor McGregor.

Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight Foundation, is unanimously appreciated by the MMA world. In 2020, his efforts were acknowledged by the UFC as they presented him with the inaugural Forrest Griffin Community Award.

“Dustin is a great athlete, but more importantly he’s a great human being,” said Dana White. “He is a kid who works hard and is passionate about giving back to not only his community but to those who are less fortunate.”

Conor McGregor also had some choice words for Dustin Poirier's wife after losing the trilogy fight against 'The Diamond.' McGregor told Joe Rogan: "Your [Poirier's] wife is in my DM’s. Hey baby, hit me back up, and I’ll chat with you later. We’ll be having an afterparty at the Wynn nightclub, baby."

And as an immediate reaction, Jolie flipped off Conor McGregor.

The beef between Colby Covington and Dustin Poirier started off during their common gym called American Top Team (ATT). And as soon as Covington left ATT, he started verbal attacks on ‘The Diamond’ and ‘Gambered’ which later got too personal.

Colby Covington, post-UFC 272, called out to the Poirier family, “So I thought it was funny. It showed his true colors and character. He’s got his little prop, his wife Jolie, out there. Obviously, she’s a prop. He only uses her as a prop because he knows he’s a piece of sh*t person, and he wants to act like he’s a nice guy, a family man, a father, and a good husband. So, I just thought it showed his true character last night. He’s a dirtbag, and so is the whole camp that he resides out of,”.

However, Dustin Poirier said that he was never going to fight Covington inside the octagon. And added on about taking the beef into the streets and both of them going to jail.
