Makari Jaimon Paige (born January 11, 2002) plays defensive back for the Michigan Wolverines. Paige guided Michigan to three consecutive Big Ten conference victories, including a national championship. He attended West Bloomfield High School and played football under future Michigan assistant coach Ronald Bellamy. He was also a high school teammate with Donovan Edwards and Semaj Morgan.
During his junior and senior seasons, 2018 and 2019, he recorded 198 tackles, four interceptions, and eleven pass breakups. As a senior, he was chosen All-State and to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team. Paige was one of the top-rated safeties in 2020, with offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, and Kentucky. Paige committed to the University of Michigan, her home state institution, on July 30, 2019.
Paige committed to the University of Michigan in July 2019 and enrolled in early January 2020. As a freshman in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he participated in all six games for Michigan and had six tackles.
As a sophomore in 2021, he played nine games on special teams and safety. Paige takes over the starting safety position from RJ Moten midway through the 2022 season. Paige started five games and appeared in twelve.
Paige ended the season with 41 tackles, one interception, and one sack. Before the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked Paige seventh among returning safeties in college football. PFF also ranked him as Michigan's second-highest-graded defender. Paige started 13 of the Wolverines' 2023 games and appeared in 14. Paige had 41 tackles, including a forced fumble.
Paige helped Michigan win three Big Ten conference crowns in a row, as well as a national championship. Following the season, Paige indicated that he would return for a fifth season in 2024. He received an All-Big Ten honourable mention in both 2022 and 2023.
