JaMychal Green: A Brief Biography

JaMychal Green is a professional American basketball player. He was born in Montgomery, Alabama, US, on June 21, 1990. The power forward plays in the National Basketball Association for the Golden State Warriors. Before joining the NBA league, Green represented some teams in the G League. Earlier, JaMychal Green played high school and college basketball as well. He was selected as NBA D-League All-Star in 2015 and Alabama Mr. Basketball in 2008. In the NBA league, JaMychal played for the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and Warriors.


JaMychal Green Early Life

JaMychal Green was born in a Christian family based in Montgomery, Alabama. The family was incredibly huge, involving eight siblings from his father’s side and twelve siblings from his mother’s side. His father’s and mother’s names are Alonzo Green and Rita Green, respectively. In 1992, JaMychal’s brother was murdered, who was the father of two children. Further, JaMychal Green received his high school education in Montgomery before moving to college.


JaMychal Green NBA Journey

JaMychal Green went undrafted in the 2012 NBA draft. It cleared the way for him to join the San Antonio Spurs for the 2012 NBA Summer League. Green signed with the Spurs on October 22, 2012, but the team waived him on October 26. The Austin Toros (NBA Development League) acquired Green on November 1, and averaged 12.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in 44 games he played for the Toros.

JaMychal Green further signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in July 2013 for the 2013 NBA Summer League. In October, he joined the Chorale Roanne of France and averaged 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in 25 games for the club. JaMychal entered the camp of the San Antonio Spurs in July 2014 for the 2014 NBA Summer League. Later, he was acquired by the Austin Spurs on November 1, 2014.

In January 2015, Green rejoined the San Antonio Spurs under a 10-day contract. They agreed to another 10-day deal on January 28. In the next month, Green signed a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies two times. On March 2, Green and the Grizzlies signed a multi-year agreement. He played decent minutes for the Grizzlies in the 2015-16 season.

Green posted a career-high 17 points in a game against the Phoenix Suns on March 6, 2016. Three days later, he gained a career-high 13 rebounds along with 17 points against the Boston Celtics. Two days later, Green registered a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds in a win over the Pelicans. In a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, JaMychal Green gained a career-high 18 rebounds on December 8. He surpassed his previous best of 17 rebounds, which he achieved against the New Orleans Pelicans. Against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green logged a career-high 29 points on February 4, 2017.

JaMychal Green became a restricted free agent after the 2016-17 season. He then re-inked a two-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies on September 27, 2017. Unfortunately, Green missed 12 games due to a jaw injury after starting the first two games in the 2018-19 season. After recovery, he secured a season-high 24 points in a win over the Pelicans on December 7. In a lost game against the Miami Heat, Green got 24 points and 11 rebounds on January 12.

Along with Garrett Temple, Green was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on February 7, 2019. He re-signed with the Clippers in July of the same year. The Denver Nuggets was the next franchise to acquire JaMychal Green under a multi-year contract in November 2020. He scored 20 points off the bench on February 8 in a win against the New York Knicks. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on June 23, 2022, and then to the Golden State Warriors on August 1, 2022.

JaMychal Green attended a private catholic high school named St. Jude Educational Institute for his high school education. At St. Jude, Green supported his team to win the Class A State Championship two times, in 2006 and 2008. In the 2006 tournament, he was voted as the Most Valuable Player. JaMychal amassed more than 2,500 points during his entire high school career and became a member of the National Honor Society at St. Jude.

During his high school career, Green won several awards. It includes Alabama Mr. Basketball (2008), McDonald’s All-American (2008), and Alabama Sportswriters Association's Player of the Year (2006, 2007, 2008). Meanwhile, Green also represented the USA National U18 Team in Argentina at the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

Upon completing high school education, Green joined the University of Alabama in 2008. He selected this university over Ole Miss in August 2007. Green averaged 11.6 points each game in 32 games during his freshman year. With 7.9 points per game, he ranked first in rebounding among SEC freshmen. Green was the second among all SEC players to have five double-doubles and finished 9th in rebounding (7.2) and 17th in scoring (14.1) during his second season. In the 2009-10 season, JaMychal Green scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 games. In January 2011, JaMychal completed 1000 points of his career at Alabama in a game against the Auburn Tigers.
