Standing at 7-foot-3 with a wingspan over 7-foot-8, Bol Bol is an intriguing young talent in the NBA. As the son of the late 7-foot-7 NBA player Manute Bol, who passed away in 2010, basketball is certainly in Bol's blood. However, Bol did not grow up in Sudan like his father. He was born in Khartoum, Sudan in 1999, but moved to the United States at an early age.
Bol attended Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas for his freshman year. He then transferred to Bishop Miege High School for his sophomore year. At Bishop Miege, Bol started showcasing stellar abilities - scoring, rebounding, blocking shots - that garnered interest from top college programs.
For his junior season, Bol transferred to California powerhouse Mater Dei High School. Playing against top competition, he posted impressive numbers of 16.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. His strong play helped Mater Dei reach the CIF finals. Bol then transferred again for his senior season, this time to Findlay Prep in Nevada. His dominance continued in Findlay Prep School, as he averaged 20.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while shooting 70% from the field.
After graduating from Findlay Prep as a consensus five-star recruit, Bol enrolled at the University of Oregon in June 2018. In his freshman season, despite being sidelined with a foot injury, Bol put up staggering numbers - 21 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. However, he played only 9 games before the season-ending injury. Nonetheless, Bol declared for the 2019 NBA Draft following his freshman year. He was selected 44th overall by the Miami Heat, with his draft rights quickly traded to the Denver Nuggets.
Bol made his NBA debut in 2020 but received sporadic playing time over three seasons in Denver. In January 2022, he was traded to the Orlando Magic. Given more opportunity in Orlando, Bol played 70 games and averaged 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game during the 2022-23 season. Now in his fifth season, Bol Bol is traded to Phoenix Suns in a one-year deal. Still only 24 years old, Bol continues to develop his unique skill set and carve out a role in the league.
