Daniss Jenkins, a point guard for the Detroit Pistons, was born on August 17, 2001. He went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and signed a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons and their NBA G affiliate, Motor City Cruise, in July. The Dallas, Texas, native went to Hillcrest High School and was chosen as the District 12-4A Offensive MVP in his senior year by The Dallas Morning News. Following graduation, he pursued undergraduate studies at Pacific (2019-2021), Odessa College (2021-2022), and Iona (2022-2023), and graduate studies at St. John’s University (2023-2024).

Jenkins made the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team his freshman year at Pacific University. He finished his final season with the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team with an average of 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.7 triples, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 44.6% from the field. He was the lone St. John's player selected for all-conference honors after the regular season, including the All-WCC freshman team in 2020, the first-team NJCAA All-American in 2022, the second-team All-MAAC in 2023, and the second-team All-MAAC in 2024.
