Kawhi Anthony Leonard is a professional basketball player in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers. Leonard is a defensive specialist with large hands and is therefore nicknamed “The Klaw”. He played college basketball for San Diego State University and was a second-team All-American. Leonard was drafted 15th overall in the 2011 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers but was traded to the San Antonio Spurs on the same day. In his time with the Spurs, Leonard clinched his first NBA title in 2014 and was awarded the Finals MVP. He spent seven years playing for the Spurs before being traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2018 where he won his second NBA championship and his second Finals MVP with the Raptors in 2019.

Leonard has received many achievements in his career such as six times NBA All-Star and two times NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019 with the hope of winning a championship for his hometown team. Leonard has been a force to reckon with on both offense and defense even with the numerous injuries that he has had to endure.

Kawhi Leonard Gold Medals

Kawhi Leonard has not won any medals for Team USA as of August 2024. Leonard was selected as a member of the 2024 US Men’s Olympic basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, he decided to withdraw his candidature for the team after a couple of practices with the team, ahead of a friendly scrimmage with Canada. His decision was influenced by his NBA team, the Los Angeles Clippers and USA Basketball Officials, and was eventually replaced by Derrick White of the Boston Celtics.

Leonard was also a finalist for 2016 as well as 2024 US Men’s Olympic Basketball teams but unfortunately could not make it to the final roster. Leonard averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the 2023-24 Season for the Los Angeles Clippers, playing 68 games for them in the regular season.
