Born on July 12, 1998, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, also known as SGA, is a Canadian professional basketball player who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder as of March 2025. The Charlotte Hornets selected SGA with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft but traded him to the LA Clippers on draft night. After one season in LA, SGA was traded to the Thunder in July 2019. In the 2023/24 season, he led OKC to the number one seed in the west. He averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over 75 games in the 2023-24 regular season, as per Basketball Reference.

In his first season with the Thunder, SGA emerged as the team’s top scorer, leading the team to the playoffs as the fifth seed. Despite facing all difficulties over the next two seasons, Gilgeous-Alexander achieved a significant milestone by earning his first NBA All-Star Game selection and being voted to the prestigious All-NBA First Team in 2023. During the 2022/23 season, he ranked fourth in the league in scoring, with an impressive average of 31.4 points per game, as per Basketball Reference.

As of March 2025, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has played 23 playoff games in his career, as per Basketball Reference. His first postseason experience came during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019. After getting traded to the OKC Thunder in the 2019 off-season, Shai again reached the playoffs in 2020.

After playing in playoffs in the first two seasons of his NBA career, SGA missed playoffs in three consecutive seasons from 2021 to 2023. Finally, Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder to playoffs in 2024 and averaged 30.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, as per Basketball Reference. In the 2024-25 season, SGA again led the OKC Thunder to another playoff with a 59-12 record. SGA is averaging 32.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game in the 2024-25 season.
