Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a Canadian professional basketball player who currently plays for the OKC Thunder in the NBA. As a senior in high school, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 18.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Gilgeous-Alexander played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats. After 6 games coming off the bench, he became the regular starting point guard for the team and led them to the NCAA tournament. Playing stellar in the first two rounds against Buffalo, Kentucky faltered at the buzzer to Kansas State in the Sweet 16, where Gilgeous-Alexander missed a last-second shot. After just one season in college, he declared for the 2018 NBA draft.

Gilgeous-Alexander was selected by the Charlotte Hornets 11th overall pick before being traded to the LA Clippers on the same night. He had a great rookie season, averaging 10.8 points per game. He was mostly starting but played limited minutes with Lou Williams coming off the bench. After the 2018-19 season, the Clippers traded Gilgeous-Alexander to the OKC Thunder in a massive deal involving Paul George. In the 2019-20 season, Gilgeous-Alexander got a great opportunity to learn under one of the greatest point guards to play the game, Chris Paul. This duo led a surprisingly frisky Thunder team to the playoffs and came within one game of advancing to the second round. After the 2019-20 season, the Thunder committed to a full rebuild around Gilgeous-Alexander and have made him the main man of the franchise. Last season, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in 68 games played. He shot 51.0% from the field, including 34.5% from 3-point range. For the 2023/24 NBA season, Gilgeous-Alexander will earn over $33 million. His current deal runs through the 2026/27 season, where he will earn over $40 million.
