Malik Monk took some time to find the right fit in the NBA but once he did, Monk has looked amazing so far. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2017 NBA draft as the 11th overall pick. Right off the bat, Monk had incredible athleticism, was a great three point shooter who could space the floor, and could knock down almost every free throw he took.

When Monk was playing for the Hornets, he violated the NBA’s drug-use policy due to which he was suspended from the league. After, the Hornets initially refused to trade him to other teams and claimed that he was part of their future but they ended up not wanting to re-sign him when the time came. This move by the Hornets caused Monk to lose his reputation around the league and teams not wanting to sign him. Later, he settled for a lower contract and joined the Los Angeles Lakers.

Monk signed with the Sacramento Kings in 2022 and ever since, has been on a roll. Last season when the Kings faced the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, Monk was incredible. While there were other stars in the team, Monk and Fox were dominant. Monk averaged 19.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists on 33.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and 40.9 percent from the field. Golden State had no answer for Monk but unfortunately they lost to a more experienced team.

This season, Monk is starting to look like he will be the front-runner for the Sixth-man of the year trophy as he is averaging 13.6 points on 41.3 percent shooting from the three point line.

Reason behind Malik Monk not having tattoos on his right arm

Monk was just a 17 year old when he first started to get tattoos on his left arm. When it came to his right arm, he had none because Monk said his right arm is “Strictly for buckets.” This means Monk does not want to tattoo his right arm because that is his shooting hand and is only going to use his right arm to score the basketball.

This statement is not new and we previously heard Nick Young, a former NBA player, say that too. Monk told the reporters that he took inspiration from Young and he was just in high school when he heard Young make that statement. His left arm is almost fully covered with ink but his right is clean as a whistle.

Monk is coming off of a huge playoff run and is one of the reasons why Sacramento is right on track to become a perennial contender for years to come. The Kings are currently sitting as the fifth seed in the west and are looking forward to achieving a second straight playoff appearance this season.
