Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a Canadian professional basketball player who currently plays for the OKC Thunder in the NBA. As a senior in high school, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 18.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats and after six games coming off the bench, he became the regular starting point guard for the team and led them to the NCAA tournament.

Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted 11th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in 2018, but was traded to the LA Clippers on the same night. After a respectable rookie season with the Clippers, he was traded to the OKC Thunder, where he is the starting point guard. Last season for the Thunder, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in 68 games played. He shot 51.0% from the field, including 34.5% from 3-point range.

In the 2022/23 NBA season, Gilgeous-Alexander was named an All-Star for the first team and made it to the All-NBA First Team. In 2021, Thunder and Gilgeous-Alexander agreed on a five-year $180 million deal.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was born in Toronto and plays for Canada’s national basketball team. He is a skillful guard who contributes at both ends of the court. Besides his elite scoring skills, he is also known for his excellent basketball IQ.

For the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Team Canada had a strong roster. RJ Barrett and Gilgeous-Alexander led the team from the front, and powerful forwards like Dillion Brooks and Zach Edey were at their best in defending the perimeter.

In the group stages, Gilgeous-Alexander helped Canada win all three of their matches against Lebanon, Latvia and France, winning a qualifying berth for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's stellar play went a long way in helping team Canada come away with a bronze medal.
