Talen Horton-Tucker is an American basketball player currently playing for the Utah Jazz of the NBA. Born in Chicago, Horton-Tucker was raised in the Uptown neighbourhood on the northern side of Chicago.

Horton-Tucker took a liking to basketball from a very young age and embodied that feeling since elementary school. Horton-Tucker has had his number 5 jersey retired by his elementary school, St. Matthias Elementary School.

Horton-Tucker played at Simeon Career Academy, leading the Wolverines to three straight city championships. Horton-Tucker was a consensus four-star recruit and received offers from Illinois and Xavier. However, Horton-Tucker chose to go to Iowa State over all these offers.

Horton-Tucker was selected as the 39th overall pick by the Orlando Magic and on the same night, was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. For most of the 2019-20 season, Horton-Tucker played for the Lakers’ G League affiliate team.

Horton-Tucker was included in the 15-man roster that went to the bubble after COVID-19 suspended play for the 2020 season. Horton-Tucker won a championship in his very first season with Los Angeles and soon thereafter, was a key component in the two-timelines of the Lakers return to stay in championship contention.

The 2020-21 season was sort of a breakout season for Horton-Tucker as he became a key part of the Lakers’ rotation. With the national spotlight under, delivered some huge games in the playoffs against the Suns. However, the Lakers season came to an end in the first round.

Horton-Tucker missed the start of the 2021-22 season after he underwent surgery to repair ligaments in his finger. Horton-Tucker was nearly traded at the 2022 tradeline but managed to stay on the team and delivered a career-high 40-point performance in a 112-128 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

In the 2022-23 season, the Lakers were once again underwhelming, and this time at the trade deadline, they traded Horton-Tucker to the Jazz in a massive three-team deal involving the Timberwolves. Horton-Tucker is still finding himself as a player with the Jazz and his minutes and position on the team are as erratic as his output on the floor.
