Khaman Maluach was born on September 14, 2006. He plays collegiate basketball for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Duke Blue Devils and is from South Sudan. He is tall, 7 feet 2 inches (2.18 meters) and plays center. Additionally, he joined the South Sudan national team at sixteen and is a member of the team, as of June 2025. According to the BBC, Khaman Maluach spent his childhood as a refugee with his mother and siblings in Kawempe, in neighboring Uganda. He went to Bwejjaba to attend Bethel Covenant College.

He began playing basketball at a local camp that Luol Deng had organized. Later, he attended the NBA Academy Africa in Saly, Senegal, which combines education and basketball. Maluach was acknowledged as the ACC All-Tournament First Team and received Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Top 20. He was awarded the NCAA East Region All-Tournament Team and registered 136 out of 191 shot attempts with a field goal percentage of 0.712 as per his college roster page.

Khaman Maluach’s Career

During the 2022 BAL season, Maluach was a member of the BAL Elevate program and played for the South Sudanese professional team Cobra Sport. After being selected first among the academy prospects by the AS Douanes, the reigning Senegalese champions, Maluach participated in his second BAL season in March 2023. He won MVP of the camp at the 2023 Basketball Without Borders in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Maluach was selected by the Ugandan team City Oilers for the 2024 BAL season, it was announced on March 4, 2024. Maluach declared his commitment to Duke on March 6, 2024. He selected Duke over UCLA, Kentucky, and Kansas, and at the time, ESPN ranked him as the third-best prospect in the 2025 NBA draft.

Maluach was included in the South Sudan national team's roster for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in August. He was the Bright Stars' youngest player at sixteen years old. He became the third-youngest player to play in a World Cup match when he made his debut in a triumph over China.
