Dwayne Haskins: A Brief Biography

Dwayne Haskins

Haskins played for three seasons in the National Football League before he tragically passed due to an accident that occurred. Haskins carried a lot of potential while coming into the NFL. He had a great arm to throw bazooka passes with great accuracy.

What made Haskins a great player was his dual-threat ability. One moment he could throw deep, difficult passes and the next he could take matters into his own hands to run when the defensive coverages were tight. Haskins had great football intelligence to make the right plays at the right time.

However, this is not to say that he was perfect. There were some downsides to his game that were noticeable. When Haskins had to throw under pressure, he would sometimes get sacked by the defenders or throw the ball way off the target. Another issue with his game was the inconsistency he would show at times. He was great in one game and would disappoint in the next. Despite his flaws, it was clear that he belonged with the big boys in the NFL and could have been a star, had he played a few more seasons.

Haskins was drafted by the Washington Commanders (previously known as the Redskins). What is very unsettling for the fans is that Haskins passed away before perfecting his craft. His death occurred due to being struck by a dump truck while attempting to cross Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on foot.

Haskins is missed by his family and fans to this day. He was just 24 years old when he passed.

The only problem was that Ohio was stacked with talent so Haskins never really stood out from the rest.

After 2022, the Commanders could have exercised a fifth-year option under the deal. However, The Commanders waived Haskins' fifth-year option in December 2020. This ultimately led to Haskins’ dismissal from the team.

Haskins' rookie deal was typical for a first-round choice. He received a huge signing bonus and a high average salary. The deal was incentive-based, so Haskins might have earned more if he performed better but he struggled to make an impact on the field.
