World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was detained in Louisville, Kentucky ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship for allegedly not following a police officer's orders. Scheffler was charged with second degree assault of a Police officer, third degree criminal mischeif, reckless driving, and disregard of signals from officers directing traffic.
Scheffler was placed in handcuffs and detained by police officials near the gates of Valhalla Golf Club after an alleged misunderstanding with the officers. An accident near Valhalla Golf Culb that morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian had caused officers to increase surveillance and reinforcement and also caused a delay in round two tee times.
Scheffler was detained at Jefferson County as he was arriving at Valhalla Golf Club to warm up for his scheduled tee off at 8:49 AM, postponed due to the accident.

It is still unclear as to whether Jefferson County will release the 2024 Masters champion, who also became a father recently, in time for the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship.
How did Scottie Scheffler get arrested?
ESPN Reporter Jeff Darlington was a witness to the arrest of Scottie Scheffler. Earlier in the morning an accident involving a shuttle bus resulted in the death of a pedestrian, causing police officials to be on high alert and increase surveillance near Valhalla Golf Club. According to Darlington, Scheffler had tried to get ahead of the traffic leading up to Valhalla Golf Club and took a median road.
When asked by police officers to stop his vehicle, Scheffler attempted to drive past the officers before being halted in front of the gates of Valhalla Golf Club. An officer was screaming at Scheffler to get out of the car by then and proceed to attach himself to the golfer's car, forcing him to stop. As he obliged, he was pinned against his car and placed in handcuffs and led to the police car.
Darlington captured a video of the arrest at the scene and shared it on X. In the video, a police officer can be heard saying,
"Right now he's [Scottie Scheffler] going to jail and it ain't nothing you can do about."
Jeff Darlington said,
"Scheffler was then walked over to the police car, placed in the back, in handcuffs, very stunned about what was happening, looked toward me as he was in those handcuffs and said, 'Please help me.' He very clearly did not know what was happening in the situation. It moved very quickly, very rapidly, very aggressively."
