Sony Six bags Australian Open broadcasting rights for India

Sony Six has bagged the broadcasting rights of Australian Open for India for the next 5 years. Owned by MSM India, the channel will broadcast all the Australian Open matches live from 2015 to 2019.

MSM CEO NP Singh said: “Over the years, the Australian Open has established itself as one of the most revered competitions in the hearts of Asian sports fans. We are committed to further expand distribution of the tournament and strengthen our position in the market”.

Tennis Australia CEO and Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said: “MSM presented a compelling proposition and demonstrated a commitment to promote the event and the sport of tennis in India which continues to cement our position as the Grand Slam of the Asian-Pacific”.

While previously showing ATP tournaments, Australian Open will be Sony Six’s first venture into broadcasting Tennis majors.

The Australian Open is annually held over the last fortnight in January in Melbourne and is one of the 4 Grand Slams to be held in a calender year. It is played on hard courts.

Sony SIX has broadcast rights of international sporting event like The Pepsi IPL, UEFA EURO 2016, Qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016 and the European Qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2018, The NBA, The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and TNA.
