Ajay Jayaram's Dutch Open win sees his world ranking jump two spots to 66th

Ajay Jayaram

Indian men’s shuttler Ajay Jayaram jumped two places to 66th spot in the latest Badminton World Federation rankings. The 27-year-old Mumbai lad, who recently scooped up the Dutch Open after a prolonged injury beating two higher ranked players en route to glory, could advance only two spots as he had points to defend following his absence from the international circuit in the first half of 2014 due to his shoulder injury.

The country’s top male shuttler K Srikanth dropped one place to 23rd position. Among the other Indians, B Sai Praneeth climbed three places to 43rd spot, while Anand Pawar – son of former international Uday Pawar – moved up one spot to 44th position. The quartet of Parupalli Kashyap, HS Pranoy, RMV Gurusaidutt and Sourabh Varma retained their last week’s rankings of 27, 31, 25 and 37 respectively.

Meanwhile, in the women’s section, Saina Nehwal stayed put at number seven spot and so was PV Sindhu, who clung on to her last week’s number ten ranking. PC Thulasi advanced one spot to 43rd position, while Arundhati Pantawane also moved up one spot to be placed 50th.

The Indian men’s doubles pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri retained their last week’s 32nd position, while the pair of Pranaav Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar fell one spot to 38th.

Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa retained their last week’s 21st ranking in the women doubles section, while the combo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tarun Kona moved up one spot to 39th position in the BWF rankings.
