No truth to accusations against me: N Srinivasan tells Supreme Court

N Srinivasan

N Srinivasan, International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman and Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) suspended president, told the Supreme Court on Monday that all accusations made against him are untrue. Previously, the country’s apex court had alleged conflict of interest against the India Cements owner, adding that he was also answerable regarding his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) official Gurunath Meiyappan. The latter had been found guilty of betting during the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

"I acted with speed when I got to know about allegations against my son-in-law. BCCI launched a complaint against Meiyappan and Raj Kundra," Srinivasan said.

During Monday’s hearing, the court also asked the BCCI for an explanation on the financial model of the IPL.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had observed that CSK should be terminated as a franchise with immediate effect, insinuating that Srinivasan’s position might have come in the way of the BCCI organizing a fair tournament. "Srinivasan's position as CSK owner might have come in way of him conducting a fair tournament," it had said.

The court had also asked the BCCI to hold fresh elections with the people currently under siege in the IPL betting and spot-fixing scam standing aside. The BCCI AGM is set to be held on December 17.
