Tamil Nadu's Subramaniam Badrinath contemplating a switch to Vidarbha

Subramaniam Badrinath

Veteran Tamil Nadu batsman Subramaniam Badrinath has revealed that he is closing in on a deal to sign for Vidarbha, which will see him move out of the team he has represented for close to 14 years since making his Ranji debut back in the 2000-01 season.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, the 33-year-old said: "I'm in the process of finalising the move.I need to get an NOC from the TNCA, and then sign a contract with Vidarbha."

When questioned about the reason behind the shock move, Badrinath, who saw him being snubbed in the 2014 IPL Auctions despite having done justice to his role with Chennai Super Kings and then dropped from the state squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the national T20 tournament, said : "No specific reason... let you know when everything is confirmed."

Badrinath has 8778 first-class runs to his name with 30 centuries at an average 59.31. The right-hander should consider himself extremely unfortunate to not be a part of the international set-up; despite raking in runs in the domestic circuit all these years, he has represented India in only 10 matches: 2 Tests, 7 ODIs and 1 T20s.

Not just in the longer format, he has been a prolific run-getter in the List A matches, too. Averaging 37.64 in the 128 matches he has played, Badrinath has scored 3764 runs, with 27 half-centuries and 5 centuries in the format.

It has to be noted that the Karnataka batsman Ganesh Satish has also joined Vidarbha for the next season after limited opportunities in the treble-winning side.
