The latest reports claim that Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll is in "early talks" to sell a minority stake of up to 25% in the Aston Martin F1 team.

The F1 team was rebranded in 2021 from Racing Point, which Stroll had been controlling since 2018 after the former outfit, Force India, almost went defunct. This rebranding was a part of Stroll's $235.6 million investment in Aston Martin in early 2020, with Stroll becoming the executive chairman of the company.

Throughout the 2021 and 2022 campaign, the team didn't seem too competitive. After Sebastian Vettel retired at the end of the 2022 season, Fernando Alonso replaced him.

At the same time, Aston Martin developed well enough to remain in contention for the top three teams in the championship. The Spanish driver brought the team to the podium multiple times during the 2023 campaign and they finished fifth in the championship.

Now, after Alonso's contract extension, it has been reported by Bloomberg that Lawrence Stroll is in "early talks" to sell a minority stake in the F1 team. The "minor" stake could potentially be up to 25% of the team, making sure he would still be in control of the squad.

With the positive development the team has had in the past season and current campaign, this could be a huge opportunity for Stroll. Furthermore, with the reports of Red Bull's aero wizard Adrian Newey leaving the team, the team might be willing to hire him.

Adrian Newey's exit reports raise speculation on Aston Martin

It was recently reported by the German publication AMuS that Red Bull's chief technology officer Adrian Newey is set to leave the Austrian squad after the internal turmoil relating to team principal Christian Horner.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it could be a huge deal for the front runners in the sport. Newey's expertise in aerodynamics have helped Red Bull since 2006. Furthermore, he has won a combined 25 drivers and constructors' world championships throughout his career in F1 with different teams.

With Aston Martin's reports of selling a stake in the team emerging, the team might get in contact with Newey if he does leave Red Bull in the future. Their challenger is still relatively competitive within the top five. Moreover, the team is set to enter a technical partnership with Honda in the 2026 F1 season with the new engine regulations.

Aston Martin could turn into an extremely strong squad if they manage to have Fernando Alonso's drivecraft in a car powered by Honda and designed by the aero wizard Adrian Newey. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
