World football's governing body FIFA's president Gianni Infantino on Friday announced the creation of a committee to monitor labour conditions in the stadiums hosting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a press conference, Infantino explained that the new overseeing body will be led by FIFA and will be composed of "relevant sectors of civil society and other relevant FIFA stakeholders to oversee all FIFA competitions", reports Efe.

The conditions for the workers building the stadiums for Qatar World Cup 2022 have been reported as very poor by numerous human rights organisations.

"Over the last few weeks I have been following very closely the discussions on FIFA and human rights, particularly around the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

"This body will validate the quality and effectiveness of the due diligence processes in place," he said.
