The North East Lajong Super Series: Wellington Phoenix and United Sikkim announce squad

Saikat

Wellington Phoenix FC, the New Zealand based club, have announced their 20-member squad for the North East Lajong Super Series. They will play two Indian football teams, Shillong Lajong FC and United Sikkim FC in the tournament. Though it was stated earlier that apart from Phoenix, three Indian football teams would take part in the tournament, due to unknown reasons, tournament officials have settled for just two.

Wellington Phoenix, which plays in the Australian A-league, have experienced players in their squad and most of them play for the New Zealand national football team. Though some of them are not expected to travel with the team, the squad is still very much strong and both Indian teams will have to work very hard to get past them. On the other hand, former Indian captain, Baichung Bhutia’s United Sikkim have also announced their squad for the tri-series. With Bhutia and three other foreigners, United Sikkim also look solid.
