Three Shillong Lajong Academy boys to represent India in the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers!

Rupert Nongrum, Shairborlang Kharpan and Nim Dorjee Tamang of Shillong Lajong FC Academy have been selected for the India Under-19 national team to play in the AFC Under-19 Championship qualifiers to be held in October 2013 in Qatar.

Five Shillong Lajong boys were part of India Under-19 preparatory camp which included Jacob, Zodingliana, Rupert, Shaibor and Nim Dorjee. The five boys also travelled to China in July for an exposure trip.

Now Rupert, Shaiborlang and Nim Dorjee have all been called-up again to don the national colours.

The three Lajong boys who got selected for the final squad said, “We are very happy, proud and excited to represent the U-19 Indian National Team. We have a big challenge ahead of us and we will give our best performance and try to make our country proud.”

The call-up to the national junior squad comes as a huge confidence booster to the Shillong Lajong Youth Development Programme, which have left no stone unturned in developing the young wards at the Club.

Club Managing Director/CEO Larsing Ming Sawyan said, “This development is indeed a just reward of all the efforts that have gone towards moulding our boys for the future. We, as a Club, are really happy and it shows indeed that our Youth Development Goal 14 project is moving towards a positive direction. We wish the boys the best of luck for the tournament.”
