China’s Du Li set a new world record in the qualification round in Rio

China’s Du Li created history when she set a new Olympic Record in the women’s 10m air rifle qualification event by firing an outstanding 420.7 points at the National Shooting Range in Rio de Janeiro. The Chinese started the qualification round by firing 104.5 points in the first series and followed it up with an impressive 106 points in the second series.

The shooter looked in very good form and quickly got herself into the top-10 shooters in the qualification round during the first series. The Chinese then shot with 104.8 points in the third series to get her tally to 315.3 points after the third series. This meant that the shooter was on course to break the qualification record at the Games which was previously held by Katerina Emmons who had shot 400 points in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Du Li went on to increase her points tally when she shot another impressive 105.4 points in the fourth series to finish the qualification event with 420.7 points and as the number one ranked shooter in the qualification round in Rio.

The 34-year old shooter is currently ranked number six in the world in the women’s 10m air rifle event and will be participating in the final round of the same event later tonight.
