Table Tennis : NCC Indian Open IITF Pro Tour 2010 kicks off

New Delhi, 16 June 2010: The NCC Indian Open ITTF Pro Tour 2010 started here at the Yamuna Sports Complex in the capital. Mrs. Sheila Dikshit the Chief Minister of Delhi declared the event open in a gala ceremony. The event is being considered as a test event en-route to the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. Over hundred players from 15 nations are participating in the five day long event.

On the first day of the tournament the qualifying rounds were played for both the in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles event. Four players in group of 8 are competing for a place in the main draw which will start on Friday. The top two players each group will go to the main draw.

Dhanraj Chaudhary the Competition Manager said, “It is definitely one of the best indoor stadiums for TT. The light arrangement and the air conditioning are good. The temperature is maintained at 24 degrees and the control of air is also fine. Keeping in mind the importance of Flooring in TT we have used synthetic court, the court Hs been imported from France”.

Men’s Singles Qualifiers

Group 1

Yannick Vostes from Belgium defeated India’s Sanil Shetty (11-4, 11-4, 11-9, 6-11,11-8) by 4-1. Vostes lost her second match to Gang Woog Kim from Korea by 2-4 (11-4, 12-14, 11-9, 7-11,9-11,13-15).

Group 2

Xiaoli Cai from Singapore defeated India’s Soumyajit Ghosh by 4-1 (8-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-7,11-5). Cai lost her second match to Muhd Shakirin Ibrahim from Malaysia by 2-4 (8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 8-11,9-11,7-11).

Group 3

Zhongze Liu from Singapore defeated Jung Hwa Seo from Korea 4-3 (11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 11-9,9-11,4-11, 11-9). Zhongze Liu continued to win his second match by defeating

India’s Pathik Mehta by 4-1 (11-5, 11-5, 11-6, 9-11,11-7).

Group 4

Anirban Nandi from India defeated his countrymen Kumar Jubin by 4-1 (11-8, 17-15, 12-10, 6-11,13-11). Nandi then lost to Ji Min Han from Korea 2-4 (4-11, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11,11-7,3-11).

Group 5

Ovidiu Ionescu from Romania defeated Sathiyan Gnanasekaran from India by 4-3 (11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 7-11,11-7,5-11, 11-6)

Sourav Chakraborty of India got walk over from Arpit Bhopalkar but lost the second match to Ovidiu Ionescu from Romania by 4-1 (13-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7,11-9).

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran from India too got walkover.

Group 6

Chien-An Chen from Chinese Taipei defeated India’s Devesh Karia by 4-2 (6-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-4,11-5,11-1). Amalraj Anthony Arputharaj from India defeated Aniket Vinayak Koparkar by 4-1 (11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4). Amalraj later defeated Chien-An Chen from Chinese Taipei by 2-4 (11-6, 8-11,6-11,15-13,9-11,5-11). Devesh Karia from India lost to Aniket Vinayak Koparkar from India by 2-4.
