Bennedict Mathurin is one of the finest rookies to play in the 2023-24 season of the NBA. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on June 19, 2002, he had a keen interest in playing basketball. He also played ice hockey and football as a quarterback growing up, and became the first Canadian-born player to join the NBA academy in Mexico City.

He played collegiate basketball for the Arizona Wildcats where he averaged 14.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists in the 63 games that he played in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. He helped his team win their eighth conference tournament title and won the 2022 Pac-12 Tournament Most Outstanding Player and Pac-12 Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year awards for his performance with the Wildcats. He also became the 31st player for the Arizona Wildcats to put his name on the school’s Ring of Honor.
