Billy Donovan, born on May 30, 1965, in Rockville Centre, New York, is the head coach of the Chicago Bulls as of November 2024. He was a college player at Providence College, where he played for the Providence Friars men's basketball team from 1983 to 1987. Although he was drafted by the Utah Jazz in the third round (68th overall) of the 1987 NBA draft, he was waived before the start of the season. Despite not playing in the NBA, Donovan had brief stints with teams such as the Wyoming Wildcatters in 1987 the New York Knicks in 1987-1988, and the Rapid City Thrillers in 1988-1989. Donovan's coaching career took off when he became the head coach of the University of Florida's men's basketball team in 1996.

Before that, he coached from 1994 to 1996 at Marshall University. He coached the Florida Gators from 1996 to 2015, during which time he achieved significant success, including back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2007. From 2015 to 2020, Donovan served as the head coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder before taking over as the head coach of the Chicago Bulls in 2020.
