Šarić was born on 8 April, 1994 in Šibenik, Croatia to Predrag Šarić and Veselinka Šarić. He made his professional debut with KK Zrinjevac. He later joined the KK Zagreb in the same 2009-10 season and appeared in two games during his rookie season. In his second season, he appeared in eight games, scoring 19 points and 18 rebounds. Before joining the NBA, he used to play for the Anadolu Efes in Turkey, with whom he played for two seasons. In his first season with the Anadolu Efes, he appeared in 65 games with 50 starts while averaging 10.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 24.5 minutes per game. Šarić in the 2015-16 season appeared in 61 games, averaging 11.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game for the Efes.

Šarić also has a long record for playing for his country, his first appearance came in the 2009 Under-16 European Championship.
