Deandre Ayton arrived in the NBA as a dominant, athletic, and competitive center with highly effective defensive skills and a tall frame that elevated his on-court potential. Picked first overall in the 2018 NBA Draft, Ayton became popular for his attacking, dominant style of Basketball which propelled his stock and made him popular across the world of basketball.

Ayton began his sporting journey with Balboa High School in San Diego and played basketball till his sophomore year before transferring to Hillcrest Prep Academy.

In his junior year with Hillcrest Prep, Ayton averaged nearly thirty points, 16.7 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game and led Hillcrest from the front to win the Grind Session World Championship in his senior year while averaging 26 points, 15 rebounds, and just over three blocks per game.

As he honed his skills through dedication and hard work, his potential began to attract attention from scouts across the United States.

After graduating high school as a consensus five-star recruit, Ayton enrolled at the University of Arizona in June 2017 and began outperforming his collegiate competition. In his sole season at Arizona, Ayton averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.

Deandre Ayton Height

Standing 7 feet tall, Ayton's height makes him a prominent presence below the rim. Throughout his collective basketball career, Ayton has been crucial on both ends of the floor, giving him the ability to dominate the offensive paint while also excelling as a rebounder and rim protector.

Despite his potential, Ayton’s past couple of seasons have largely been underwhelming with his game’s main criticism being mediocre performances in deciding playoff rounds.

This combination of strength and athleticism allows him to play calculated basketball regardless of competition and there have been instances in his five-year career where he has played as such.
