Dwight Harlan Powell, commonly known as Dwight Powell is a professional basketball player from Canada. Born on July 20, 1991, he had a keen interest in sports activities from a younger age. He began his basketball journey in high school and continued it to the expert stage. Dwight is now playing for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association and additionally plays for the Canadian National team.

Harlan Powell and Jacqueline Weir welcomed their son, Dwight Powell to this world on July 20, 1991, in Toronto, Canada. He is now 32 years old. His father, Harlan was a white Canadian whilst his mom was of Jamaican descent. Some reports claim that Dwight’s parents parted away when he was young. However, it isn’t clear whether or not his mother and father ever married or separated when he was young.

Dwight was primarily raised by his mother who always inspired him to pursue his career in sports. His mother worked as a bank executive and she always pushed her son to higher levels whether it is sports or education. Dwight’s mother died on September 12, 2012, because of breast cancer. High School & College

Dwight initially attended Earl Haig Secondary School in his hometown, Toronto, Ontario. Thereafter, he made a move to the US and joined the IMG Academy located in Bradenton, Florida, which marked the inception of his basketball journey. He averaged 23.2 points and 11.6 rebounds in his senior yr. After completing his graduation from IMG Academy, he enrolled at Stanford University in Stanford, California, United States.

Dwight Powell became a member of the Stanford Cardinal men’s basketball team and started competing against numerous college basketball teams. He averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds as a college fresher. After that, Dwight continuously improved his performance and gained the Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year title twice within the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. After his senior year at Stanford University, he entered the 2014 NBA draft.

NBA Career

Dwight entered the NBA on June 26, 2014, after being selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA draft as the 45th overall pick. The following month, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers wherein he played in the 2014 NBA Summer League. Later, Dwight signed a contract with them on August 23. This team traded him to the Boston Celtics on September 25. While playing for this agency, the Boston Celtics assigned him to the Maine Red Claws group of the NBA Development League for multiple occasions.

December 18, 2014, marked the pivotal movement when Dwight Powell’s path led him to the Dallas Mavericks via a trade. During his time with this team, Dwight demonstrated his skills by scoring a season-high record of 11 points in the month of January 2015. Thereafter, he represented the team within the 2015 NBA Summer League and guided them to matches in opposition to several NBA teams.

Dwight Powell re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks on July 8, 2016, and resumed playing for this NBA group. In December, he recorded a profession high 17 points in a game in opposition to the Chicago Bulls. Dwight continuously helped the team to reach greater heights and secure a valuable spot in the NBA. On July 6, 2019, he prolonged his agreement with the team. In December, Dwight had a season-high 24 points in opposition to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In the 2021-22 NBA season, Dwight emerged as one of the 4 standout players who confirmed their dedication by actively playing in all 82 games in a season. He re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks on July 9, 2023. Presently, Dwight passionately competes in basketball matches along with his teammates.
