After excelling as a college basketball athlete and graduating from Portland State University, Udoka declared for the 2000 NBA draft but surprisingly went undrafted by any NBA team.

Born on August 09, 1977, Ime Udoka is 46 years old. After going undrafted in the 2000 draft, Udoka played in the now-defunct International Basketball Association which consisted of teams from Canada and the USA. In 2001, Udoka went to Argentina to play in the Liga Nacional de Basquet which is the top-tier league in the Argentine Basketball system.

Udoka returned to the United States in 2002 and entered the NBA Development League (now G League) draft and got selected 39th overall by the Charleston Lowgators.

After a decent season where he averaged 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals, Udoka received a call-up and made his NBA debut for the Los Angeles Lakers. His first season in the NBA was cut short after only four games.

In 2003, Udoka decided to play overseas and landed at CB Gran Canaria of the Liga ACB before transferring to JA Vichy in the LNB Pro A. While playing in Europe, his game witnessed some key improvements which helped motivate Udoka to play more efficiently and responsibly

After returning to the NBA in 2005, he played six more seasons in the world’s most revered pro basketball league and amassed a career average of 5.2 points, three rebounds, one assist, and 0.7 steals a game.

From 2000 to 2012, Udoka played in six professional basketball leagues alongside the best global players and basketball minds and thus elevated his status as among the best role players to play the sport.

After retiring from active competition, Udoka joined Greg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs as the new assistant coach. His nine-year stint as assistant coach earned him valuable, priceless experience, deep knowledge about the game and its nature, and some notable achievements along the way such as the NBA title in 2014.

Since being promoted to head coach in 2021, Ime Udoka has shown impressive leadership skills and accountability in his ability to bring together respective talent and win games. When addressing the media, he has multiple times asserted the importance of capitalizing on the individual success of players and bringing them together into one productive unit.

He took a 36-36 Boston Celtics who couldn't go past the first round in the 2021 playoffs and upskilled their talent, taking them to the 2022 NBA finals. With this in mind, there is minimal doubt that productive changes are ahead for the Houston Rockets.
