James Johnson is a professional basketball player. As of May 2025, he plays as a power forward/small forward for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA. He began his collegiate basketball career with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons men's basketball team at Wake Forest University, where he played from 2007 to 2009. During that time, he appeared in 61 games, averaging 14.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Johnson earned Third-Team All-ACC honors in 2008 and 2009 and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2008.

The power forward was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA draft. During the 2011 season, he also played for the Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League. Over his NBA career, Johnson has played for numerous teams as of November 2024, including the Toronto Raptors, the Sacramento Kings, the Memphis Grizzlies, the Miami Heat, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Dallas Mavericks, the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Brooklyn Nets, before joining the Pacers.
