The Detroit Lions are in their 95th season in the NFL, as of December 2024, and this is their fourth season with Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes as their general manager and head coach, respectively. In order to retain their NFC North crown, they will want to improve on their 12–5 record from the 2023 season.

For the first time since 1995, they won three straight games after defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars in a landslide victory in week 11. The Lions defeated the Indianapolis Colts in week 12 of the 2024 season, becoming the first club to reach 10 wins. This was the first time a Lions team had achieved this milestone since 1934, and it was also the first time in franchise history that they had two consecutive seasons with 10 or more wins.

The Lions unveiled their new uniforms, which have a vintage font and a new alternate that features blue text on black jerseys, black pants, black socks, and a blue helmet with a black lion design. The Lions are off to their finest start in franchise history with an 11-1 start to the season. It was also the Lions' first Thanksgiving victory since 2016.
