Fred Warner

During his six-year stint in the NFL, Fred Warner has quickly risen to become one of the premier linebacker talents in the league. Since being drafted in 2018 by the San Francisco 49ers, Warner has been a key pillar in a mean defensive unit, which has repeatedly ranked at or near #1 in the league.

Warner was born in San Marcos, California on the 19th of November, 1996 and began his football journey at Mission Hills High School where he played as a linebacker.

His impressive performance led to him being named the All-San Diego Section Defensive Player of the Year during his playing days at school. He had also been honored with the title of Avocado East League Defensive Player of the Year.

During his time in the NFL, Warner has been nominated to 3 Pro Bowls and 3 All-Pro First Teams. He's led the 49ers to 1 Superbowl appearance and 3 NFC Championship game appearances and will be looking to do the same in the 2023 NFL Playoffs.

Fred Warner College

Warner played college football at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, USA from 2014 to 2017. He saw action in 10 games in his Freshman year and showed enough potential to become the full-time starter at the linebacker position in his Sophomore season in 2015.

Over his 4-year college career, Warner recorded 264 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 7 interceptions and 2 defensive touchdowns in 49 games for the Cougars. He was an All-Independent first-team selection in 2016 and 2017. During Warner's senior season, he led BYU in tackles and finished seventh in the nation for tackles made. He graduated in December 2018 as an exercise and wellness major.

Fred Warner Draft

Warner was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the 70th overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the 9th linebacker selected in the draft. Warner declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, after his final college season. The 6'3", 230-pound linebacker recorded a 4.64 s time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, 38.5 inches in the vertical jump, a 6.9s three-cone drill time and bench pressed 225 lbs for 21 reps.

In retrospect, it was a steal for the 49ers, as Warner has blossomed into being one of the best inside linebackers in the league. Alongside his teammate Dre Greenlaw, Warner forms a formidable linebacker partnership that has led a defensive unit ranking near #1 in the NFL, whenever they're healthy.

Warner’s statistics since being selected by the 49ers are also mind-boggling. He's maintained a six-year stream of notching up more than 100 tackles every season, dating back to his rookie season in the league. In the 2023 NFL season alone, he has racked up 15 pressures, 128 total tackles, and limited pass-catchers to under 10 yards per reception. Warner was PFF’s highest-rated linebacker in 2023.
