The Chicago Bears are as historical as the NFL itself. The Bears are one of the founding charter members of the National Football League. Established in 1919, the Chicago Bears are currently the second oldest franchise in the NFL. The Staley Starch Company decided to sponsor a football team in 1920 and that is how the team came to be, as they joined the American Football Association (which later got renamed to the National Football League). Before the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Bears were dominant in the National Football League and won 8 Championship titles. They had their most successful run of form in the Playoffs again in the 1980s when they also won their maiden Super Bowl (in 1985).
