Badminton Association of India issues new rules to tackle fake birth certificates

The Badminton Association of India has come up an interesting method to tackle the issue of fake birth certificates

In a bid to eliminate the menace of fake birth certificates, the Badminton Association of India(BAI) has come up with a set of guidelines, which would help them put a check on this menace.

According to the new guidelines, the association has asked state bodies to not issue identity cards to players if his/her year of birth and the year of registration are different. It has to be noted here that a player cannot compete in tournaments if he doesn't have an identity card.

A circular released by BAI further confirmed it was compulsory for all players to have state ID cards and any late submission of the documents will find no takers.

"It is mandatory that all BAI affiliated units should maintain state IDs at the state level after verifying the original Date of Birth certificates registered in Municipal Corporation Gram Panchayat Department of Birth & Death registration office dated of the same year of birth. The certificates produced with a later date (Not having the same year of birth) will not be entertained. Affidavit from parents on a Rs 50 stamp, attested by the Notary, is to be submitted in original, confirming DOB,” the release read.

The secretary(tournaments) of the BAI, Punnaiah Chaudary felt with the new guidelines in place, it was impossible for players to fake birth certificates.

"We have issued strict guidelines to the district associations to visit schools and municipal offices and check the DOBs before issuing IDs. This is a very good move by BAI and all state associations should follow these guidelines," he said.
