WBF Rankings: Kashyap retains 8th spot, Saina clings on to no.2

India’s ace shuttler Parupalli Kashyap retained his world number eight spot in the men’s singles category in the latest World Badminton Federation (WBF) rankings released on Thursday. Kashyap last figured in the Swiss Open in Basel, where he reached the third round and went down to Malaysia’s Wei Feng Chong.

The same was the case with badminton icon Saina Nehwal who clung on to her world number two ranking in the women’s singles category.

Like Kashyap, Saina also last participated in the Swiss Open, where she lost in the semifinals to nemesis Wang Shixian of China.

Among the other Indian men, Ajay Jayaram, who crashed out in the second round of the Yonex Australian Open on Wednesday, held on to his number 30 position. RMV Gurusaidutt also took the same route, retaining his 36 spot.

However, Sourabh Varma advanced one spot to be placed 37th. Sourabh last played in the Swiss Open where he was shown the door in the opening round. Sourabh earlier made it to the second round of the All England Badminton Championships. .

K Srikanth was another shuttler, who moved up one spot to 62nd.

Anand Pawar, who is currently playing in the Yonex Australian Open and had also entered the third round of the Yonex German Open, fell four places to be ranked 48th.

B Sai Praneeth also dropped five places to occupy the 59th spot.

HS Pranoy, who grabbed the eyeballs when he reached the semifinals of the Polish Open, slipped four places to be ranked 72nd.

Old warhorse Chetan Anand, who once reached a career-high ranking of 14, jumped five spots to be placed 95th, while the likes of Arvind Bhat and Anup Sridhar dropped one spot to be placed 100th and 109th respectively.

Among the Indian women, PV Sindhu maintained her number 16 spot. Sindhu last played in the Swiss Open where she entered the second round.

Arundhati Pantawane fell seven spots to be ranked 98th. Arundhati fared well at the recent Polish Open, reaching the quarterfinals. PC

Thulsai, another semifinalist at the Polish Open dropped one spot to be ranked 99th.

Tanvi Lad, who made it to the quarterfinals of the Polish Open, fell one spot to be placed 100th.

Sayali Gokhale, another quarterfinalist at the Polish Open, advanced five places to occupy the 116th spot.

Sarada Jasti fell one spot be ranked 146th, while Neha Pandit also dropped one spot to be placed 147th.
