2013 EuroBasket: Germany, Turkey and Russia crash out

Much to the disappointment of European fans, the heavyweights of the continent, Germany, Turkey and Russia crashed out of the first round of the 2013 EuroBasket, which is underway at Slovenia.

Germany finished fifth in Group A at the end of the first round, while Turkey and Russia finished in the bottom two positions respectively in Group D to crash out of the Championship.

24 nations are divided in four groups of six teams with top three teams from each group advancing to the next round.

Group A

France, Ukraine and Belgium entered the second round of the championship from Group A.

Group B

Serbia, Latvia and Lithuania entered the second round of the championship from Group B.

Group C

Spain, Croatia and Slovenia entered the second round of the championship from Group C.

Group D

Italy, Finland and Greece entered the second round of the championship from Group D.

The top six teams from 2013 EuroBasket – excluding Spain, as they have already qualified as hosts – will get their ticket to the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
